Governance at the Safeguarding Interface

Independent oversight for a shared safeguarding standard

The Safeguarding Interface operates under a governance model designed to ensure independent, transparent oversight of its framework and accreditation processes.

Safeguarding sits at the heart of education, but the way it interacts with operational control demands clear boundaries of accountability.
Our governance structure provides those boundaries, ensuring that the Interface remains impartial, evidence‑based, and aligned with existing statutory responsibilities.

Advisory Group

The Safeguarding Interface is guided by an Advisory Group drawn from safeguarding leadership, estates management, education governance, and compliance expertise.

This group advises on the development and application of the Alignment Accreditation, ensuring that it reflects sector practice and maintains professional integrity.

Principles of Governance

Our governance model is built on three principles:

  1. Independence – oversight separate from operational or commercial interests.

  2. Transparency – criteria, decisions, and updates communicated openly to stakeholders.

  3. Proportionality – alignment with the scale and nature of operational risk.

These principles underpin all Safeguarding Interface decisions, from accreditation reviews to framework development.

Governance in Practice

  • Advisory input feeds into updates of the Alignment Framework.

  • Operational audits follow a defined review cycle and terms of reference.

  • Conflicts of interest are declared and managed transparently.

  • Appeals or challenges are independently reviewed.

This ensures the Interface remains a trusted mechanism for safeguarding governance in live operational environments.

Upcoming Appointments
